Our History is Our Future: An Intergenerational Storytelling Panel

  • Chetco Community Public Library 405 Alder Street Brookings, OR, 97415 United States (map)

The Chetco Community Public Library and Southern Oregon Coast Pride invite the community to an evening of inter-generational storytelling on Tuesday, May 12. This panel discussion brings together 2SLGBTQIA+ community members between the ages of 40 and 80 to share their lived experiences. The evening will reflect on moments in history that shaped the movement and invite the panelists to share their hopes and vision for the future of the queer community.

Doors will open at 5:00 PM for light refreshments and community socializing, followed by a facilitated panel discussion at 5:15 PM.

The panel will feature local voices who have navigated major turning points in queer history, from the activism of the Stonewall era and the HIV/AIDS epidemic to the landmark legalization of same-sex marriage. This facilitated conversation will go beyond simple reflection, asking these community elders to share the aspirations they hold for the future of 2SLGBTQIA+ life on the Southern Oregon Coast. It is a unique opportunity to hear how the challenges of the past have blossomed into a contemporary landscape of connection and community.

In the spirit of fostering community dialogue, organizers are inviting the public to help shape the evening’s conversation. If you have a topic to suggest or a question you’d like to ask the panel, please submit it via this online form: https://forms.gle/X79qRmNZGrhTcBuk9 The deadline for community question submissions is 5:00 PM on Monday, May 4.
