Movie Night in Crescent City!

"Ballot Measure 9" is about the brave queer folks and allies who fought against and defeated the 1992 homophobic Oregon Ballot Measure 9.  Ballot Measure 9, which would have changed the Oregon Constitution to equate queer people with pedophiles, was initiated by the Oregon Citizens Alliance (OCA), an unscrupulous homophobic organization that had become a powerful political force in Oregon during the 1980s-90s.  The brave folks who campaigned against the measure were subjected to abuse and death threats from the OCA.  This was an amazing period of Oregon history, and this empowering, Sundance award-winning 1995 film documents the tireless work of Oregon grassroots gay rights organizers to raise awareness and stop the OCA's efforts to bring legislation against queerness.  Scott Seibert, one of the people featured in the film who was part of the effort to defeat ballot measure 9, will be speaking to filmgoers (remotely) this Saturday at the end of the movie.
