About Q&A

Q&A was established in the Spring of 2015 after a series of community conversations were held to identify the needs of local LGBTQ+ youth. It was decided that creating a gathering space was crucial for youth who need safe space and adults where they can come and “be themselves” free of judgment. It was clarified by youth that the space be somewhere they can make friends, celebrate, and explore their identity.  Out of these conversations, a weekly meet-up of “Queers and Allies of Coos County” was born.

Activities

Our Elders

Laura (she/her)

Laura moved to Coos County in 2013 with her partner and three cats. In 2015, after a series of community conversations about LGBTQ+ needs, she founded Q & A of Coos County with her friend, Beka Young. Q & A has been the highlight of her Thursday afternoons ever since. When she is not spending time with the youth attendees, you can find her reading, jamming out to Indigo Girls, dancing around her living room, or paddling around in the nearest body of water.

Grust (they/she)

Grust Hernandez is a vital mentor in Southern Oregon Coast Pride's Q&A program, dedicating her passion to empowering our youth. She creates a safe space for young people to thrive, reflecting her broader commitment to health equity and community well-being. Outside of their impactful work, Grust enjoys spreading joy through singing, laughing and clowning.
