Our Mission

We aim to uplift individuals in our gender-expansive community by providing a safe, and inclusive space where they can access clothing, shape-wear, and other products and services that help them explore and affirm their gender. We are dedicated to fostering a community of support, respect, and dignity, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to express their true selves without fear or judgment. Through our efforts, we strive to break down barriers, promote equity, and create a world where all individuals can thrive authentically.

Who is Eligible to Use the GAC?

The Gender Affirmation Closet is a resource dedicated to supporting transgender, non-binary, and gender-questioning individuals. We kindly request that cisgender individuals respect the intended purpose of this space.

Age Considerations: Individuals of all ages can access the GAC. For clients under 14 years old, we will need the consent of a parent or guardian before assisting with purchases beyond clothing (e.g., shapewear, haircuts).

Geographic Requirements: To access our services, clients must live in, have a permanent address in, or reside within Coos County, Curry County, or Reedsport. This includes youth in care who may be temporarily living outside of these locations.

Q&A

  • A: To ensure we can support as many individuals as possible, we currently have a spending guideline only for clothing, which is $200 every six months (January-June and July-December), amounting to $400 per year per person. For all other items and services offered through the Gender Affirmation Closet, there are currently no set spending limits. We understand that building a wardrobe can be costly, so we highly recommend taking advantage of our in-house closet filled with free, gently used donated items. Combining these free resources with affordable options from local thrift stores can help you make the most of your clothing budget. We will keep this information updated here if any changes occur.

  • A: Your privacy is important to us. We only collect personally identifiable information when it's necessary to fulfill a specific order for you. Once that order is completed, this information is securely deleted to protect your identity. We also collect non-identifiable information, specifically REALD and SOGI data. This anonymized data is crucial for our grant applications, helping us secure the funding needed to continue providing essential goods and services to the community.

  • A: That's perfectly alright! Our Advocates are here to support you at any stage of your journey. We encourage you to visit us during our Open Hours or at our community events to connect with one of them. They are here to listen and understand how you envision yourself and how you'd like to be seen. By exploring your goals together, our Advocates can offer valuable guidance on different clothing styles and products that align with your gender goals and help you authentically express who you are.

  • A: We offer two ways to access our resources:

    • Office Hours: Our office is open for self-guided shopping Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm (unless otherwise posted). During these hours, you can browse our selection of clothes, shoes, accessories, and binders at your own pace. Please note that Advocates are typically not available during these standard Office Hours.

    • Open Hours (Special Events): We also host special "Open Hours" events, which are typically held outside of our regular office hours and are announced in advance. During these Open Hours, Advocates are on-site to provide more personalized support, answer questions, and guide you through our clothing and product options.

If you'd like one-on-one assistance from an Advocate outside of our scheduled Open Hours events, please reach out via text, phone, email, or Discord to schedule a dedicated appointment at a time that works best for you.

  • A: We greatly appreciate your support! Donations can be dropped off in the clearly marked donation box inside our office, just by the entrance.

Our ongoing needs include masculine-presenting clothing in all sizes. Your donations help us ensure everyone has access to affirming garments. To stay up-to-date on our most pressing needs, special requests, or any upcoming donation events, please be sure to follow us on Facebook. We'll share specific details there!
